Baby's sick

After returning form our holiday, baby fell ill the next day. I have no idea how she fell ill. Probably the change in weather, or from the aircraft which had no ventilation when transiting.But after 8 months since she was born, she finally fell ill. She had fever, not high, for 3 days and now the spots are appearing all over the body just as the doctor predicted. Now i understand why my colleague is so afraid of her son falling ill. Because baby has become soo attention seeking, soo whining and super mang zhang, and keep waking at night.. sigh.. Hope this doesn't continue after she's well. Thank God I took 1 week leave before starting the new job cos now, she doesn't want to drink from the bottle! and my milk supply is insufficient for her. THank God she started eating solids as well..
Despite that, now that her fever's gone, she's still able to smile, squeal and giggle.. little things that we live to hear.

Langkawi - 25th Aug ~ 28th Aug

You might be thinking, there must be a lot of things to pack on this trip especially when you are bringing a baby along. Yes, you are right. Ruthie's stuff took up 3/4 of a full size luggage! There are lots of food (Milk powder, puree, snacks etc), 1 pack of diapers, toys, medicine, you name you, we have it. A bit of a kiasu parent here, but you never know where you need it.

We set off with both grandparents seeing us, or rather, Ruthie off to the airport. Ruthie can be seen to be particularly excited that day. Maybe she does know something about all these big luggages and the packing.

Ruth is neither afraid nor having problem coping with the pressure difference. That's good. However she's having difficulties of not having enough space for her to roam about. She kept looking around, bouncing up and down, touching everything she could lay her hands on, a trademark of our energizer bunny, she just couldn't keep still.

It has been a week since we returned from the trip. Initial thoughts upon returning were" didn't seem that we got to relax"- more of taking care of baby, and " don't think it'll be any time soon we'll go for trips" . Indeed most of the schedule had to be fitted to baby's nap time to prevent her from being grouchy. But thank God that we booked a good hotel which gave us more incentive to stay in there more often. Any way there wasn't much to do in langkawi. However, thinking back 1 week after the trip, i did miss playing with baby in the pool, seeing her reactions and seeing her enjoying herself. It was worth it.


I shall relate accounts of the days spent according to my memory.

Day1

Baby's first flight on Malaysia Airlines. We got a front seat with a bassinet but no infant food. She slept on her way up in daddy's arms but when she woke up she was her " normal" self. Didn't seem to notice things were different or was not exceptionally grouchy because of the air pressure. Upon landing, she took it rather fine as well, distracted by toys or puffs. Arriving at Langkawi airport, we were greeted by hounds of car rental agencies but decided to rent from town as we would get a better deal.


Could not ask for more from Westin and cannot imagine staying in other hotels which might not be as baby friendly. After her nap, we walked to Jetty point which was 15 mins walk from the hotel and baby in the pram. Took some photos, had dinner and rented a car for 4 days. We retired early after bathing baby in the sink. All 4 nights were challenging as baby kept waking up 3-4 times, due to unfamilar surroundings and maybe from playing too much during the day.

Day2


For breakfast, in order to keep baby occupied and so that we could eat more peacefully, we fed her the buffet's porridge and mashed up papaya. We then headed towards the cable car annd waterfall however it was under maintainence and the waterfall route was no place for an infant. As there was no car seat, baby was standing on the back seat holding on to the front head rest, jumping up and down. One way to entertain her. We went back to the hotel and baby took her first swim:). SHe didn't seem anxious or frightened. Just wanted to play with water and in fact had no awareness of danger. But she truely enjoyed herself and was very happy during her first swim though it was only 30mins. After getting out of the pool, we will always swaddle her with the pool towel and she would lie on the bench motionless. Quite a funny sight. Dinner was at the hotel's restaurant and was EXPENSIVE. But for convinence sake, we ate there.

1st swim

Day 3

Was spent mainly at the hotel. Took a late morning and late afternoon swim with naps in between. Couldn't swim in the afternoon as the sun was scorching hot.



Day 4

Didn't do much. AFter breakfast, baby had her morning nap then it was time to leave.

Changes

In a blink of the eye, baby is already 7mths and she's started crawling but very clumsily. We would put her toy a distance from her and see her stretch and kick and do the leopard crawl until she gets it. This new found skill has indeed kept her very busy. Trying to reach for every new thing she sees and when you take it away, she screams! so spoilt.. It's such a joy to see baby at each stage of her life and this stage to see her wriggling like a worm.

In the last 2 months, events happened very fast. Hubby in reservist, both of us going for interviews and being offered jobs. I have accepted my new job and forgo my masters for now. I do not know if that's the better choice but definitely i'll have more time and energy for the family and for another baby. The sacrifices of a mummy but it's all worth it.

Baby's first teeth

Baby has been blowing bubbles and sticking out her tongue for the last one or so. We guessed that probably her teeth were coming out or she probably learnt a new habit. Yesterday while I was breast feeding her, she bit me.. hard!! but that was also because she was trying to poo while feeding. And when i took a look at her lower jaw, true enough , she has 2 tiniwinnie teeth. YEah!!That calls for a celebration. So i called my in-laws, who came over half hour later to take a look, and called my parents and lovey hubby who was incamp. BUt i guess the teeth came out earlier than yesterday because 4,5, days ago while feeding her, i realised that she had a strong bite on the spoon. She didn't drool excessively, nor did she have fever nor was she more mang zhang than usual. She did eat slightly lesser than usual and some miraculous did happen as well. She slept through the night last night!!. I put her to bed at 930pm and 7pm when i woke up she was already awake. She probably woke at 6plus but didn'tscream for mummy. What a considerate little angel.
I have heard stories of how baby didn't sleep the entire night or had fever when they first teeth but baby is different. NOw, i just pray that she'll have a nice set of teeth like daddy if not will have to spend a bomb on them.

All by myself

Last week, we let baby sleep in her own room by herself. We did that for 4,5 days until she got a sore throat from probably screaming at night when she wakes up and the dry air from the fan. So she back in our room again. In fact, i doubt she even realises she's in her own room. She sleeps , wakes up for milk or comfort then sleeps again. Hopefully when she doesn't get up so often at night, we can put her in her room again. And pray by the time it won't be too late.

Baby's motor development is rather fast for her age as well, i think. Already she's rolling around so fast , standing, sitting with support. And she can never be still. She loveees to stand for some reason. Probably it makes her feel that we are not always looking down on her. She eats about anything we feed her also. But then again we haven't feed her much. Just 5,6, varieties of food. She loves new food and would usually ask for 2nd helping of it. But after eating the same food for a period of time, she would scream rejection. Needs variety. Just like mummy:)
